With a professional career spanning nearly two decades, Ian Grieve's association with the arts began as a young boy, winning an Arts Council sponsored prize at eleven. There was no particular artistic vein in the family and Ian is content with the feeling that he was struck with the talent. Striving to new heights and dimensions as his skills developed, the past twenty years has been a time of intense involvement, not only in painting but also in pottery and sculpting.

Ian obtained a solid formal grounding in the arts, obtaining a Diploma of Art Education at the Sydney Teachers College as well as a Diploma of Arts from Alexander Mackie College, Sydney where he majored in ceramics and painting. The one time country boy, raised in New South Wales, spent ten years in Sydney and moved to Noosa, on the Sunshine Coast in 1982 where he established a studio with artist/wife Judy Hall-Grieve.

From his early natural inclination, the manifestation of art onto canvas has become a pivotal point in Ian's life, leading to wins in many other art competitions. The interest in pursuing oil painting as a career became a growing focus as he explored his chosen genre.

A natural progression was to paint people and much of Ian's work has centred around this theme, allowing him to probe depths of both artistic expression and the essence of human beings who are about to be immortalized on canvas.

Solo and group exhibitions from 1986 to the present day has helped Ian to assess public response and acceptance - success has followed success.
